About Nurse Practitioners
Tricia is an Urology Nurse Practitioner. A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an experienced registered nurse who has undertaken additional Masters level study to increase their scope of practice. NPs assess and diagnose patients, request and interpret tests, prescribe therapies and medications, and receive and make referrals to other health practitioners. NPs usually focus in one area of healthcare, thereby offering an in-depth knowledge. In Australia there are only 2250 practising NPs (approximately) and the title “Nurse Practitioner” can only be used by those endorsed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. NPs are eligible to claim Medicare rebates for their patients.
Tricia has obtained two Master of Nursing degrees – one in Urology and Continence and a further to be endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner. Tricia has considerable experience working in Urology in various healthcare settings. She currently works at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in the Urology Outpatients Department. She also has consulting space at Clayfield Family Clinic.
